Our client, one of the leading groups in Mauritius, is looking for an Assistant Garage and Transport Executive Officer (to be based in Tanzania).
Reporting to the Garage and Transport Executive Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of three Garage sections namely; Light Vehicles, Wagons & Trailers and Heavy Vehicles.
Accountable for quality and costs of repairs and maintenance of equipment attended to by the above workshops.
Strive to reduce unplanned repairs and minimise equipment downtime.
Main responsibilities:
• Work with the Heads of Sections and assist them in preparing yearly budgets and follow up of monthly expenditure against budget, inform the GTEO of any deviation.
• Effectively plan, organise and monitor repairs and maintenance of TPC equipment through the leadership of the Heads of Sections aiming at reducing the equipment downtime to a minimum, achieving quality repairs, and minimizing costs.
• Inform and give feedback to Heads of Department and users regarding scheduling of repairs and maintenance, unexpected breakdowns or any other problem which may affect the proper running of their operations.
• Close monitoring of the labour force in order to optimize their time, reduce idle time and ensure quality repairs.
• Advise on the proper choice of vehicle or equipment in terms of suitability and operation.
• Ensure that all workshops employees are adequately protected against accidents and occupational diseases through proper training and use of protective gears.
• Assist the Workshop Heads of Sections in analysing their monthly expenses and present the findings to the GTEO.
• Negotiate the best possible deals with manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Consistently monitor and follow-up Heads of sections on day to day tasks and always verify that information received is accurate, always challenge information received and ensure the mechanics, technicians etc. utilize their time efficiently.
• Act on behalf of the GTEO in his absence.
Qualification:
• Degree/Diploma in Mechanical engineering with specialisation in agricultural machinery / heavy equipment.
• Experience in building construction and maintenance would be an advantage.
• Min 5years’ experience in managerial position.
Technical skills: A strong knowledge in agricultural tractors, harvester and implements, earthmoving and heavy equipment machineries
